  5. Auto shut-off valve: When the tank is full, this valve shuts off the drain flow to conserve water. The reverse osmosis membrane’s water supply is primarily managed by the ASO valve. The ASO valve stops the water supply to the membrane when the pressurized storage tank reaches two-thirds of the feed pressure and waits until the tank is emptied to one-third of the feed pressure before starting the water flow again.
  6. Reverse osmosis membrane: The system’s main labor-intensive component is the RO membrane. The amount of dissolved solids (minerals, salts, and metals), microbes, and organic materials that are removed from water is above 96%. Water is split into two streams by the membrane. Water filtered by the membrane is sent to storage.
  7. Check valve: The check valve stops pressured filtered water in the storage tank from running back and damaging the RO membrane when the ASO valve shuts off the feed water pressure to the membrane.
  8. Pressurized water storage tank: In a RO system, the pressure tank stores filtered water from the membrane permeate and delivers water under pressure when the drinking water faucet is switched on.
  9. Drinking water faucet: A drinking water faucet that does not have an air gap and just dispenses filtered water is frequently included with RO systems.

Construction of Reverse Osmosis Membranes
